Our team loves to help children of all ages feel confident and relaxed, so bring the whole family along! You can
trust your child will receive the latest advancements in children’s dentistry, delivered with caring, thoughtfulness,
and compassion. We promote proper dental care habits in children and enjoy teaching them how to keep their teeth
healthy for a lifetime. We look forward to meeting them during their first dental visit when they are three years
old and watching them grow year after year.
One of our desires is to ensure that this and future generations of children grow up without fearing the dental office. According to our many happy parents, we are achieving just that! Our office is a comfortable and exciting place that children love to visit. Whether you have an active six-year-old or a scared three-year-old, we are here to assist you.
We want to instill good habits early on by providing an environment that’s comfortable and fun. We believe this is
essential for a lifetime of good oral health.
Many factors contribute to children's teeth being susceptible to cavities at a young age. Children are unable to brush well on their own. For this reason, it's important for parents to assist in their child’s daily dental care. This guarantees both complete cleaning and the development of proper dental habits. Kids tend to eat more often during the day (grazing). This results in extended exposure to acid (every time you eat you create acid), which may promote cavities. The acids produced by consuming food and beverages are more harmful to a tooth that is not properly cleaned. This acid often increases the development of cavities. By helping identify poor dietary and hygiene habits, along with applying a fluoride varnish to the mineralizing teeth, we can greatly reduce the chance of your child having a cavity.
Cavities are produced by a bacterial infection called “caries.” This infection is not only treatable, but preventable. Dr.
Henkel and Dr. Braga use the CariFree™ program that assesses the risks for dental disease, detects the presence of the
cavity-causing bacterial infection, and treats the infection using preventive medical techniques.
It is far better to prevent cavities than have to repair them, and the CariFree program has proven effective in reducing cavities. During your visit you will receive a “caries risk assessment.” We will determine whether indicators suggest that you are at risk for decay. You will then receive at-home instructions and the necessary products to keep you and your family cavity free.
Even with careful brushing, cleaning every part of your mouth is hard. We know that this is especially true for children just
learning proper tooth care. Utilizing dental sealants protects their teeth from the bacteria, acids, and plaque, which lead to
decay. Remember, once the tooth has decay, it is injured permanently and will require a filling or crown.
What you should expect: 1) The tooth (or teeth) is cleaned and sterilized. 2) A thin white or clear plastic coating is applied. 3) A curing light is focused on the sealant to bond it into place. The entire procedure takes only minutes and requires no shots, drills, or the removal of any tooth structure. The application of dental sealants is one of the easiest and best procedures both children and adolescents can have done to protect their natural teeth!
